WAR On My Mind
So. For the record, I should be playing Vanguard for a ‘impressions/review’ piece. I should be playing Warcraft, if only so that I can have socializing time with my co-workers. I even transferred servers to that end. Instead all I’m doing it console gaming. God of War had my attention this weekend, as I play through it again in prep for GoW II’s release. I’m playing Hotel Dusk for review this week, and I’m really looking forward to Crackdown later this month. I’m still playing EQ2 every Wednesday, but otherwise … been there, done that.
I’m surprised then, today, by the amount of attention I’ve been paying to Warhammer Online. It’s … so Warhammery! I’m not sure that’s going to translate into a lot of subscribers, but man am I looking forward to greenskins. :)
My hope is that there won’t be EU/US segregated servers. For once, the game’s probably going to be more popular in Europe than it is here, and I want a chance to play with the crazy brits that are salivating at the very thought of this game. Meanwhile, have you seen Paul Barnett’s Video Blog? Short little crappy flash videos, to be sure, but highly entertaining. Definitely gives you the same sense of the man that I got from the phone conference. Completely awesome.
Bah. This or Tabula Rasa needs to release, and soon. Getting a little tired of the same old schtick.

Then you are already going to be deluded. Mythic in Europe is licensing the game to GOA as it happened with DAoC.
I believe the word you’re looking for is ‘disappointed’, Abalieno. :)
I’d like to *think* I’m not deluded. I have a cautious optimism with Warhammer, stemming from fond old table-top experiences and an appreciation for their RvR/PvP strategy. Another good game on the market certainly can’t hurt.
I just picked up Vanguard (along with some new hardware) and the game looks beautiful. I love the look and feel of the game, but I’m not sure if its any good yet. All MMO’s seem to have that same cookie-cutter feel for the first few levels.
Tabula Rasa looks very cool. I’m hoping people will be willing to try it if it works out well.
Well i can say we are all working jolly hard on Warhammer. Have a peek at my blog on myspace for some design theory. Hopefully we will bring some new stuff to the MMO table. And squigs and squig herders ROCK.
Oh and QA are currently obsessed with bright wizards. Things that make you go boom!
