Galaxies Greatness
It’s so nice to be able to talk about good Galaxies news again. A bunch of things today:
- A State of the Game Address for this month, an exclusive over at SWG Warcry. Dolled out by Jake Neri (Producer, LEC) and Thomas Blair (Lead Designer, SOE), it talks over the Beast Mastery points again, and a few hints about things to come. “Combat will have new features, both PVE and PVP will be enhanced by the Beast Master, and groups will now have a new class of player that they can include and use to their advantage. We are looking forward to seeing the system grow over time and we will look for ways to leverage it later on in development. With Heroic Mobs being on the drawing board for sometime this year, perhaps we’ll even see some new creatures introduced to the game that we will bring into the system. As always, we’ll be watching our players to see just what we can do to make sure people are having a great time in-game.”
- As part of the 30th anniversary stuff, they’re doing in-game tie-ins with SWG. It’s also just about Galaxies’ fourth year anniversary (which means I’m getting oldish), and they’re rolling out the four-year veteran rewards. Excellent. “Nym is throwing a party and everyone is invited! Join the festivities at Nym’s Stronghold from May 23 to June 25. Dance the night away to the melodies of Figrin D’an and the Modal Nodes band, socialize with friends, and browse the complimentary wares of Nym’s Anniversary Quartermaster. No party is complete without punch and cake, so visit the Quartermaster to take a swig of Lokkian Booster Blast, taste the sweet Anniversary Cake, set off gigantic fireworks, and more! The Quartermaster also offers a rare painting commissioned to mark this historic occasion. Hang this one-of-a-kind painting in your house to let everyone know that you attended the party of a lifetime. You can find Nym’s Anniversary Quartermaster in Nym’s Stronghold on Lok, the Restuss Starport on Rori, the Coronet Starport on Corellia, the Theed Starport on Naboo, and the Mos Eisley Starport on Tatooine. A unique badge will also be given to all players who attend Nym’s Anniversary Bash, so be sure to stop by the social event of the galaxy. ”
- Speaking of Beast Mastery, the state of the game letter links to a Comprehensive Guide on the new system. Nice work, KrackenOne.

People still play SWG?
I started playing in August 2003, quit in March 2004, and never looked back. Everything I’ve heard about the game since then has been negative, and generally held up as a classic example of “How To Screw Up A Massively Popular IP.”
Is there any hope left? (And do NOT say “Obi Wan Kenobi” :P)
Sheve, you haven’t a clue what you’re on about, you left 3 years ago. stay left as you don’t have any bearing on what SWG is now.
What is unfortunate is that the NGE is now acknowledged as a failure by Smedley and everyone else, yet the old game hasn’t been restored. Their customers told them it would be a failure the day it showed up on test center. I’ve played SWG since 2004, and while it’s better now than it was when the NGE came out (they couldn’t have made it any worse than that) it’s still a FAR cry from the wonderful animations, fun combat system, and diverse and individualistic 250 skill point system.
If they opened up pre CU servers they’d easily get thousands of subscribers back. They won’t, so the game will keep on grinding to it’s death by whimper sooner rather than later. I just hope the rumors of KOTORMMO are true.
The fact of the matter is that John Smedley and everyone involved with the NGE shouldn’t ever be trusted to develop a MMO ever again.
SWG has changed quite a bit from the old days. I for one, quit shortly after release as there was no content in the game at all. It was a grind up skill game. Of course many liked this, however if you consider WoW and it’s success, there is a ton of quest content in the game.
Today, things are different. There is a great questline called legacy that takes you all over the galaxy. Its really one of the best long questlines i have done in an MMO. In some ways this questline is similar to the epic questline in LOTRO that is raved about.
If you can get past the past, try out the trial its a much better game now.

Hey all i have read what you have said and fully understand where everyone is coming from.
I have been playing since before NGE and altho i wanted to leave at the time i stuck it out for a few months and left for about 6 months. When i was playing the game i was always grinding and altho i liked the team aspect of the game i also wanted some of the rewards that were talked about in game and you would only be able to get them if you did the quests. i dont know how many people know that u have a house to put your rewards in and desplay them any way you see fit.
I think the game has come along way since the NGE and the new collections and the new Chapters that have come and gone have added alot of depth and entertainment. The only thing that could make this game any better would be more people. if people gave the game a second chance then i think alot of the negativity would go. I am in a really good active guild on the farstar server called Shadow-warriors and the team thing is still there and if you want to go out on your own then there is taht elemant to the game as well. when the NGE came about i was just about to start my journey to becoming a jedi and still feel that jedi should be something to be worked for.
I hope you will understand where i am coming from and give the game a second chance.
Thanks Ryan ( Bluechaos )
