I’m Banning Myself From WoW
Like the fine folks at Valve, I have a lot of work to do over the next few months. Reviews to right, features to push through my brain, etc. Playing the WoW TCG at PAX and with my wife over the last week has made me really really really want to play World of Warcraft again. But no.
I cannot do it. I am banning myself from WoW until (at the soonest) I finish Mass Effect … for the first time. It’s going to drop in November, so I figure that means I’ll be able to play around in Azeroth again sometime early in December. In the meantime I’m going to focus (on the MMOG side) on Guild Wars and EQ2. And I’m only on the second stage of Bioshock … must move faster!

The more I read about Mass Effect, the longer I think it will last me. There seem to be a good amount of variables to add replay value. I suppose we can’t really know just how significant those variables are until we get our hands on the game, but I get the impression that I’ll be able to replay the game at least once for a reasonably different experience.
I’ve already figured out my first character’s sex (male), history (Earth-born), and psych profile (ruthless). What I haven’t figured out yet is whether I’ll start as a marksman or biotics specialist. Aside from those, I suppose the variables that will have the greatest effect on gameplay will be my dialogue choices and which squad members I decide to pick up and use for any given encounter.
It doesn’t help that Hellgate:London is scheduled to come out the day before! Of course, knowing this industry, that date will probably get pushed back. For once, that might actually be a pleasant surprise. =)
Tell me about it. I have about 10 more features from PAX to write in addition to my normal work schedule, school starts in… ugh… less than two weeks, and my friends are already bugging me because my Warrior is still 63 and I promised we’d do Arena at 70 if they came back. :P
Stay away from WoW and you’ll be smarter than me. Congrats on whomping me at the TCG, by the way. Damn hammer of judgements… ;)
Go go Belfadin!
