Disabling the CAPTCHA

Category: Asides, Site

I keep seeing ‘1 comment’ on posts that don’t have anything actually commented to them; I keep getting complaints about the CAPTCHA. I’d rather hear what you have to say than never get spam, so with fear in my throat I’m going to disable the CAPTCHA for now. If it turns out to be 3vil again it may come back, but for the moment feel free to comment without fear.

PS: I’ve put up the October banner on the site. It’s Hallo-tastic.

And I’ve *already* had spam. Gaah. NOT HAPPY.

If you’re using wordpress you just need to install Akismet and you’ll never see spam get through, what little if ever makes it gets locked up in a queue for approval. It’s worked flawlessly for me, and thats without ever using captcha checks.

Unfortunately, Scott, I’ve had Akismet installed for quite some time. It does a really good job, and to date has stopped something like 15,000 spam messages from hitting the site.

The reason I put in the CAPTCHA in the first place was that it doesn’t get *everything*. :)

I’m just going to have to live with Spam messages being on the site for the time it takes me to notice them.

The spam is why I moderate all comments on my blog. Akismet is great, but it’s not infallible. Lately, more comment spam has been slipping through Akismet.
