Aperture Science

Category: Asides

Finished Portal last night, and it’s a work of beauty. The Jonathan Coulton song “Still Alive” is the reward for finishing it, and you can enjoy the musical awesomeness thanks to the intertubes.

It is a treasure to be sure, but I have not finished it yet on purpose. Therefore, I will avoid following your link at this time. So far, it’s a wonderful game and I only hope there is more to come.

Super-fantastic! And HI-larious. Alas, so short. I’m working through the bonus maps and challenge mode now, but it isn’t quite the same without the computer’s “helpful” advice along the way.

I loved it as well. Although unlike Ethic I finished it quickly on purpose because I wanted to know the story (lore if you will) behind Portal and Aperture. *minor spoiler alert* I thought it was nice how Aperture ties in with Black Mesa in Episode 2. Mayhap Gordon will acquire a Portal gun in Ep3?

Overall I thought Portal was a nice FPP (First Person Puzzler haha; FPSP is a bit unwieldy). Short but understandably so-I’m not one who gets easily gets queasy during game play but there were moments when I got the slightest bit nauseous in Portal. I can’t imagine what it would be like for those who easily get screen motion sickness.

In case anyone might find, in the course of play, a username and password, they might find it helpful to take themselves to http://www.aperturescience.com/

    I’m just saying.

    hehe….go to http://www.aperturescience.com

when there is the “command screen” type in LOGIN

then type in the USERNAME cjohnson so it will look like

    USERNAME> CJOHNSON

then it asks for password…type in tier3

then from there on put things u find in Portal in the ADMIN> section like:

    thecakeisalie

    notes

    Gah, you ruined the secrets!!

And, in case anyone was wondering, you do not NEED that user/pass combo.

Any username will work with the pass: “portal”

    Just a thought.

    Not really different.

  7. xd October 26th, 2007 4:05 am

typing help also works … although only notes seem to work

  8. :( October 27th, 2007 1:40 am

    Type apply
That has 50 pages, and it’s only waste of time.

  9. andrew October 28th, 2007 2:24 am

I can’t figure out what to type after interrogate, i need an employee name.

  10. anonymous October 29th, 2007 5:24 pm

Heh- Valve certainly gives a shout out for us unix command line users; i.e., typing ‘help’ lists ‘DIR’ as a command, yet, ‘LS’ works for the same purpose.

  11. Anonymous November 5th, 2007 7:45 am

Has anyone finished the application and actually entered in their ID number?

  12. White Testament November 6th, 2007 1:16 am

I have, but the ID is CASE SENSITIVE! Haha xD

  13. Eve Christensen November 12th, 2007 12:32 am

I have entered it Case and all and it told me it was wrong…. blah.. i even sat there for 10 minutes re checking it in notepad… to make sure i had it right before continueing… anyone else wanted to domesticate the dinosaur? haha

  14. Kit November 15th, 2007 10:49 pm

Whats if you logon as CJOHNSON, you have access to the INTERROGATE command, but you need to know the name of an employee, which unfortunately doesn’t say anywhere. Alos, you get access to a NOTES command which gives you some background info on the company.

  15. IceFire November 19th, 2007 11:48 am

    found something intruiging….interrogate valve

  16. Juan November 21st, 2007 10:03 pm

if you log in as cjohnson and give then command “play portal” it’ll take you to youtube however, whatever was there before is not longer available…

  17. EddieKidd November 26th, 2007 10:05 am

HAHAH if you login and type in VALVE it takes you to where you can buy THE ORANGE BOX

  19. kimailis December 5th, 2007 12:44 pm

whats with the exam on this site? some questions have blinking letters, and in one question i saw a green image of something that looks like a bell blinking for a jiffy.
at the end of my exam i was required to enter my uin number, and when i entered it correctly the site said that i was wrong and a crisis team is on its way to me.
what the heck is going on?

  20. 512madwolves December 8th, 2007 7:30 am

The UIN changes when it’s issued… watch it for a second, and you’ll see: the letters change randomly. It’s not supposed to work.
Entering thecakeisalie is supposed to start a video, but I think it’s a busted link.

  21. Johnny December 13th, 2007 7:36 am

You do need the cjohnson/tier3 combination to access the notes area. Which is the funniest one by far.

  22. Mr.xL December 14th, 2007 8:06 am

i think ist great how there acutally doin morwe than just the game . like in half life, they never made a black mesa website
    they should have though

  23. hhexo December 18th, 2007 4:46 pm

Try “thecakeisalie” when it asks you the UIN L, seems to do something. Then again, it is probably what that command does usually.

  24. hhexo December 18th, 2007 4:52 pm

Also, there is a way of saving the UIN, which is to use PrintScreen and paste the captured screen into Photoshop or something. If you write “continue”, then capture the screen and quickly press enter, you can save your UIN before it changes. Unfortunately, as we already know, it is case sensitive, so unless someone finds a way of copy-pasting stuff into the webpage, you will never be able to type it correctly.

  25. Ivan December 19th, 2007 6:40 pm

Uhm, on the “which method of interrogation would work best on you”, does anyone have an option that says “Ivan is a dope?” cause Im terrified. I never input my name on the site, and IM on a work computer, so how the hell did it guess my name? Ivan isnt even a common one…

  26. Belron December 22nd, 2007 7:08 pm

Also- when viewing the flashing UIN at the beginning of the “APPLY” sequence, it randomly changes a couple characters every few flashes, so saving it is pointless.

  27. Nobody December 26th, 2007 3:14 pm

    To ivan:
they didn’t guess your name, thats a standard option, just a coincidence that your name is also ivan. I saw that same option, Ivan is a dope

  28. Josh December 26th, 2007 9:26 pm

ok for some reason when i put in valve it took me to myspace…….WHY!?
