Yelled At For WARing

Category: Player POV, WAR

Kirk at Priestly Endeavors notes that some healers are getting yelled at for their apparent lack of activity. WAR is a frenetic experience in RvR and scenarios, and anyone not moving is pretty obvious.

It seems that only the caster can see the animation for the heal.  The target only gets the little green number(s) in the midst of everything else.  And everybody else sees… maybe, the healer waving arms, but often just standing staring forward. Some have noted that when they’re getting nuked by at least some spells they don’t see animations either – just their health bar going down.  If they happen to be engaged with a DPS class it can lead to doing the wrong defensive moves – to include standing instead of moving to break LOS.

I’ve actually experienced this firsthand. I was deep in the thick of it, wailing on an Orc and healing up a storm. I really like this class. When the fray ended, I got a chewing out from a mouthy Witch Hunter about not healing anyone. “WHAT, YOU THINK YOU A ROUGE?”

I love what Mythic has done with healers in this game. It’s fantastic to be providing a benefit to other people in the game while also being able to do your own thing. Another jackass said something along the lines of “They think they are a Paladin, Haw haw!” I’d actually argue that the Warrior Priest is a better Paladin than the Paladin in most games. The cyclical nature of Attacks -> Healing Power -> Healing -> Attacks means the Priest can really last in a protracted battle.

Just hope they get this sticking point cleared up for the snarkish.

Mickey, welcome to the world of the Warrior Priest. A world where we are over worked and under appreciated, a world where people do not understand that we have to hit something to be able to heal them, and a world where our heals cannot always save them when there are three players beating them upside the head. We are trying to heal them but when they are jumping around like a bunny rabbit on fire, it can be a little hard. In the end if we live through the battle, we can at least rez you afterwards.

I too, have seen people get snippy with healers in RvR. I am coming to the conclusion that people think they are still playing and haven’t looked into the way healers, heal in WAR.

Those goons aside, I’m really enjoying playing a healer in WAR.

This kind of makes me happy I went with a tank, because people can generally see when a giant green Orc is standing in front of them and taking a bunch of what would’ve been their damage. Plus, it gives me the chance to thank healers more often!

I suppose the trick is to find a guild who can appreciate a good healer class player. Otherwise you’ll always end up with the junksluts that are PUG over-DPSers and thick-as-they-are-meaty tanks.

I was playing my Shaman in scenarios today. I was hearing how there were no healers while healing for 20,000+. Look, you ignorant jackass, there is even a scoreboard showing who is healing. Stop running around corners alone to fight seven things while I have two White Lions on me.

I tried a warrior priest in beta. I liked him, he reminded me of my 70 Holy pally in wow. I have a 70 holy priest as well. I love healing. But, I hated the fact that I had to hit stuff to get “mana”. Don’t get me wrong its a great game mechanic. You get to hack and heal. Just not my play style. I decided to play the Rune Priest. He has a combination of hots, instant heals and direct heals as well as party buffs and damage spells. All around a great healer. Im always in the top three in healing and the last in doing damage, LOL. I’ve never been yelled at…yet. I think this will change as players find out how these classes work. Healing isnt easy in pvp, you have to keep moving. I like to run around in circles and use my team mates as blockers. It does help that I have two instant heals, so moving and healing is not a problem. I did find that if I’m paired with a warrior priest or the high elf healer that nothing can kill us or the people we are healing. Pvp in war is tons of fun. Finally there is strategy in pvp. One last thing if you are a healer, please heal. Mythic gave you damage spells for pve, im not saying never do damage but your roll in pvp is to heal. Try to stay with your group, and yell at your group mates if they take off in 4 directions. Its a pain to click target heal non partyed members. Have fun all.
